After a six month wait the Daytime Emmy Awards are back – and the red carpet looks were as gorgeous as ever with Susan Lucci, 76, rocking a gorgeous sequin tangerine gown.
Susan – who starred as Erica Kane on All My Children and was nominated 19 times before she won the award Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series – will be honored as the Lifetime Achievement Daytime Emmy Award recipient.
The ceremony was postponed from June 16 due to the SAG and WGA strikes, but with the strikes now over, the Daytime Emmys will be broadcast on CBS, so if you’re a cord cutter you can sign up for a free trial from a live TV streaming service that carries the network if you want to watch without cable.
It will also be live streamed on Paramount+.
Jennifer Hudson oozed old Hollywood glamour in her silver sequin gown that hugged her figure, while Amanda Kloots looked stunning in a white column dress with cut-out detailing and a sequin bra top, and Sherri Shepherd went with a bold canary yellow gown with a thigh-high split.
Susan will receive her statue by SWAT’s Shemar Moore who was the man who handed her the Emmy back in 1999.
“I think he’s a perfect choice. Of course, it brings back very happy memories. He’s so charming and wonderful. He’s a very good actor and a very busy man. I’m very glad he’s going to be presenting again. I think the fans will enjoy seeing him,” Susan told TV Insider ahead of the ceremony.
Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero, producer Artisha Mann Cooper and General Hospital’s Eden McCoy among the first to hit the carpet at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles in the hours before the ceremony kicked off at 9/8c.
Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show has took home Outstanding Daytime Talk Series early on during the ceremony; it was her first out of a possible six at the 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards. Kelly was not in attendance, and her crew including producer Alex Duda accepted the award of her behalf.
General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy won the first 2023 Daytime Emmy of the evening, a year after her death at the age of 55.
The beloved actress, who appeared in over 500 episodes of General Hospital over 15 years, died on December 19. She won the Outstanding Supporting Performance in a Drama Series: Actress award, and her friend Tyler Ford accepted on her behalf, giving an emotional tribute, sharing that Sonya would be “more overjoyed for being remembered for how she made people feel on screen and off.”
Drew Barrymore, Selena Gomez and Zac Efron are all also nominated. Kelly received six for her talk show, while Zac received four for his Netflix documentary Down to Earth.
Joanna and Chip Gaines have one nomimation for Fixer Upper: The Castle, but their network Magnolia has two further nods as well.
In the soap categories, General Hospital earned the most with 19 nominations – the show has been on air for 60 years – with The Bold and the Beautiful receiving 14 nods, The Young and the Restless 13, and Days of Our Lives 11.
